I arrived back in Singapore at 11 something pm. So tired after the 9 hours flight. It feels good to sleep on my own bed again. Only that Singapore is too hot! (Wuhan temperature was 4 degree celsius, and Singapore was 32 degree celsius)

I spent the morning packing my bags, and had another presentation session with all the HODs and Subject Heads. This time round, I am sharing my own organization’s structure with them. The University Librarian told me they are very interested for they are currently thinking of revamping their structure as well. They are already familiar [...]

I visited the Provincial Library today. Although their land area is smaller than Wuhan University Library, however I heard that they have a bigger rare books collection (650,000 volumes). The titles are also more intact for they have had well-known book collectors who donated their entire collection intact to them. Hence in terms of comprehensiveness and [...]

I arrived back in my hotel at around 11pm last night. I was so tired I slept until quite late this morning. In the afternoon, I went to distribute the thank you gifts I have brought from Singapore. The Wuhan colleagues have been warm and nice to me. My only regret is I could not give each [...]

Today is more like a heritage trip. We went to see the local people performances, displaying their traditional houses, and wedding customs. It was educational. After that, we visited the site of an ancient Three Gorges civilization (巴王宫), and walked the mountain trails for the rest of the afternoon. It was very enjoyable, with the [...]

Woke up at 6am, and took an early bus to Yichang (宜昌). Arrive there in the early afternoon, and had a late lunch. Ate quite alot of mandarin oranges (Yichang’s speciality) during the trip. Along the way, I could see rows and rows of mandarin oranges growing along the roadside. One can almost just pick them off [...]

It is Thursday today. The Library staff are organizing an outing to a farm attraction. I get to see all sorts of weird vegetation. So interesting! After the outing, I rushed back to have an interaction session with the students of Wuhan University. My topic for the day is “Singapore – a cultural diversity city”. [...]
Day 15 – A Discussion

Had a discussion session with the Acquisition Department today. Quite contrary to what I have believe, they are also facing a problem with acquiring academic Chinese books as well (I thought their situation will be easier since they are in China). Apparently, the situation is the same as Singapore, with the vendors stocking up on popular [...]

My second day in the Old Library. This time I will be visiting their Cataloguing Department, and see how the rare publications are catalogued and recorded into the Library Catalogue. First of all, an important concept of organizing rare publications (整理古籍) means 2 things: To verify the authenticity of the book To record down the [...]
